MEMBERSHIP AND QUALIFICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP


TYPES OF MEMBERSHIP:

ACTIVE or full voting member at least eighteen (18) years of age. (full voting rights)
APPRENTICE member. (full voting rights)
STUDENT member. (no voting rights)
ASSOCIATE member. (no voting rights)
ALLIED member. (no voting rights)


ACTIVE member must be actively engaged in the servicing of security devices, locks, safes, etc. and have at least two (2) years experience in the Locksmith profession. May vote, serve on committees, and hold office.

APPRENTICE member must have at least six (6) months experience in the Locksmith profession, but less than two (2) years experience. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. May vote and serve on committees, but may not hold office. After two (2) years experience may move to active member.

STUDENT shall consist of students and trainees. After six (6) months may advance to apprentice member.

ASSOCIATE shall consist of manufacturers and distributors of security devices, locks, key blanks, safes, etc. Cannot vote or hold office.

ALLIED must be actively engaged in the servicing of security devices, locks, safes, etc. Must have a minimum of one (1) year experience. Cannot hold office, serve on committees, or vote.



All applications must be made on the blank forms provided for that purpose, all questions on forms must be answered in full.

Applications must be accompanied by the fee for dues according to the following pro-rated schedule:

Jan - Apr........$40.00
May - Aug.......$25.00
Sept - Nov.......$20.00
December.......$40.00 *
* Applies to following year dues.
**Associate Member dues are $50.00 per year.


All applicants for membership, with the exception of Allied and Associate, must appear in person with a completed application at a regular business meeting to give a brief description of his/ her qualifications and business practice.

Applications for membership shall be voted on at the following meeting, applicant being present.

Applications shall require a majority vote of 2/3 of the voting membership in attendance at such meeting.


Applicants for Active, Apprentice, and Student membership may fill out an application at a regular meeting. Please bring a passport photo, business card, and fee to attach to application.


****GHLA REQUIRES ALL APPLICANTS TO COMPLY WITH LICENSING AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS AS RELATED IN THE TEXAS OCCUPATIONS CODE. LICENSED LOCKSMITHS ARE NOT REQUIRED TO SUBMIT FINGERPRINTS WITH THIS APPLICATION. IF THE APPLICANT IS EMPLOYED AS AN INSTITUTIONAL LOCKSMITH AND TEXAS LAW DOES NOT REQUIRE LICENSING/REGISTRATION, A LETTER VERIFYING EMPLOYMENT FROM THE INSTITUTION OF EMPLOYMENT AND A FINGERPRINT CARD MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH THIS APPLICATION.***
